The UPS guy leaves a package at the front door, a car drives by, the same car comes back a couple of minutes later and stops in front of the house, the passenger steps out of the car and walks gingerly to the front door, the passenger grabs the package and walks back to the car, then the car drives away.

We’re pretty sure you’ve seen this occurring many times before via a CCTV footage shown on the evening news or through a Facebook friend uploading their own horror stories of their packages being stolen in front of their own home. Nowadays, we have the luxury of being able to buy everything online and get our purchases conveniently delivered to our front door. However, this allows unscrupulous individuals to take advantage of it and snatch goods that are sitting out in the open.
Aside from package theft, homeowners would also have to worry about their homes being burgled when they’re not at home or when they’re sleeping at night. Can you even imagine what you’d do in a situation when you wake up to the sound of a burglar trying to break through your bedroom window?

That’s why in times like these, you should always keep a watchful eye over your properties by installing an outdoor security system including network IP surveillance cameras and security alarms around the perimeter of your home.
Installing an outdoor security system will definitely be a great investment as it will give you that peace of mind you deserve knowing your home is protected by security cameras and alarms 24/7. Aside from protecting purchased goods delivered to your home, having a home security system also gives these other benefits:
- Deterrent - a burglar would most likely steer clear of houses with cameras and alarms installed outside their homes.
- Evidence - should burglary, theft or other crimes occur, you will have solid video evidence to put the culprits behind bars for good.
- Remote protection - surveillance cameras nowadays have this amazing feature that allows you to access real-time footage via your smartphone or laptop.
If you’re looking to put another layer of protection on your home, your properties, and, of course, your loved ones, installing an outdoor security system is definitely the way to go.
Don’t know where to start? Here are a few tips on choosing the right one for your home:
Choosing the Surveillance Cameras

Surveillance cameras installed around your home are basically your watchful eyes over your property. With that, of course, you’d be better off with security cameras that offer clearer images not only during the day, but most critically, during nights. Cameras that can be purchased from this site, for instance, provide crisp pictures day in and day out.
Aside from the quality of the camera’s footage, one should also consider getting network IP surveillance cameras. This just basically means that the cameras can be connected to your home network, allowing you to access the footage the cameras were able to record wherever you are in the world — so long as you have an Internet access — using your mobile devices. Furthermore, installing network IP-capable cameras means you can say goodbye to those bulky DVRs that save the footages as all the data can be saved directly to your home computer.
Also, these cameras will be installed outdoors, meaning they’ll be exposed to the elements 24/7. With that, you should always choose a model that can easily withstand high and low temperatures, and is resistant to water.
Lastly, in installing cameras around the perimeter of your property, you should always think about where to place and position every camera. Aside from the four corners of your home, cameras should always be positioned where they would have the best view to clearly record all the points of entry and exit around your home. In addition, you should also consider placing a camera where you think is the weakest spot in your property when it comes to security.
Choosing the Alarm System
Alarm systems are probably the most effective deterrent to home invasions. A burglar, for instance, will surely think twice breaking into your home once the culprit notices your home is rigged with an outdoor security alarm. Aside from being a deterrent, alarm systems can alert anyone —your neighbors or maybe the cops who might be patrolling the neighborhood — if anyone tries to break in to your home. So if you want your home well-protected at all times, especially while you and your family are sleeping at night or when you’re not at home, installing an outdoor security alert that gives off a distinct sound when activated is a must. Lastly, in choosing a home alarm, it’s best to go with a wireless alarm system so that you wouldn’t have to worry about the troublesome wiring when you choose to install them yourself around the perimeter.
We all know the real world is definitely not a fairy tale — heck there are ogres, witches, and evil wizards to watch out for even in fairy tales! So if you’re not too careful, chances are, you would have your own theft horror story to share on Facebook in the long run — or worse, your home can easily be broken in to. And as the saying goes, it’s wiser to be cautious and careful than to regret not doing something about what you could have prevented.
