Here are 10 of the frequently asked questions on the Honeywell L5200.
1. What are the features of the L5200?
Designed with the user’s convenience in mind, the L5200 has an intuitive interface for easy navigation. Aside from the video streaming and Z-Wave automation capabilities as mentioned earlier, the L5200 has an advanced alarm communication system that includes two-way voice. U.S. and Canadian residents can get tornado alerts on top of security, home automation, and garage door notifications. For local and remote access, the Total Connect Remote Services lets you take control of your L5200 from your computers and mobile devices. 2. How do I enable and adjust the chime on my L5200?
To activate the chime, click “Security” on your touchscreen and press “More,” followed by “Settings.” You will see a chime icon, which you just need to press. You will know that the chime is on if the circle beside the icon is lit up green. To adjust the chime volume, slide the bar to the left or right until you reach the desired volume level. To enable the chime per zone, click “Security” on your touchscreen, then “More.” Press “Tools” and enter your installer code. Go to “Program” and to “Zones.” Select the zones that you want to have a chime and press “Edit.” You will see a chime right in the middle of the bottom part of the screen. Set that to “Yes.”
3. How do I adjust the volume of the siren on my L5200?
The L5200 has a built-in siren with a volume of 85dB. To lower the volume, enter programming and toggle the “enable/disable the sounder” option to off. This will have the alarms sound like the auxiliary ones — with a slightly lower decibel, but a higher pitch. If you want to amplify the volume, install an exterior siren, provided that you have permission from the local authorities.
4. How do I adjust the contrast and brightness on my L5200 screen?
To access the panel settings, first, press the home button below the screen. Next, press “Security” and “More” on the bottom right. Then, click the gear icon, which is the “Settings.” Afterwards, there will appear a slider bar on which you can adjust the contrast and brightness as you desire. Finally, once you have selected the best settings for you, don’t forget to hit “Save” on the bottom right or else the changes won’t be registered on the system.
5. Can I use the L5200 without monitoring?
Yes. You can set your L5200 to local, meaning in case your alarm is triggered, the control panel will receive signals, which will sound off the internal siren. This should attract attention so that anyone within earshot will be prompted to contact the authorities. However, it is highly recommended that you have it monitored by a trusted security company so that authorities will be dispatched immediately in cases of emergencies.
6. How can I have my L5200 monitored by a security company?
You will need to contact the security company of your choice and inquire about their alarm monitoring services. However, before you do that, determine first the type of communication that you will use for your L5200. There are four ways to go about this: internet/Wi-Fi, cellular, land line, and dual communication. For internet-based communication, you can use either an L5100 Wi-Fi module for a wireless connection or an ILP5 module for wired. For cellular communication, use a GSMVLP5-4G or a 4GL. For phone line-based communication, connect the phone line to the two terminals on the upper left part in the control panel. Keep in mind that while an internet connection is the fastest and the most seamless, it is also prone to different failures like outages or cut cables. On the other hand, cellular communication is the most reliable, but costs more than internet-based communication. Meanwhile, if you connect to a phone line, you can get your alarm system monitored by the security company, but you will not be able to use Total Connect 2.0.
7. Can I combine internet and cellular communication?
Yes. In fact, a dual path configuration is the best option to prepare for cases when one mode of communication fails. You can set the internet communication as the primary path and the cellular as the backup. You can also combine cellular (as the primary) and land line (as the secondary). However, you cannot have cellular with an ILP5 internet communicator because they use the same port.
8. How can I connect my smartphone and tablet to my L5200?
First, you need a WiFi/IP communicator such as the L5100-WIFI or ILP5 or a GSM communicator like GSMVLP5-4G. Next, contact your security company and sign up for alarm monitoring. Then, once they have created you an account, download the Total Connect 2.0 app from the iTunes® App Store or from the Google Play Store. Lastly, log into your account and set things up as you desire. Get email and/or text alerts on system events, signals, and trouble codes. Receive home automation notifications. You can also personalize ringtones on these alerts.
9. What are the differences of scenes and rules on L5200?
To make the most out of Total Connect 2.0, you need to know what scenes and rules are. Scene refers to a set of home automation commands that you schedule depending on your routine. For instance, you want everything to be up and running when you wake up so you have to create and schedule a scene and name it something like, “Morning.” With this “Morning” scene, you can have the lights automatically turn on and the thermostats adjust the temperature. On the other hand, a rule lets you set up notifications of events and signals from your L5200 security and home automation system.
10. How do I set the date and time on my L5200?
First, make sure that the system is disarmed. Next, use the arrows pointing to the left and right to select the correct month and year. Then, select the correct date and use the arrow pointing downward to advance. Afterwards, press “Clear” and enter the correct time. Choose AM/PM and again, use the downward arrow to advance. Select the correct time zone. Enable or disable Daylight Savings Time and select the Daylight Saving Start/End period if needed. Finally, click “Save.”
